Check out the updated lincology and genealogy pages...and the beat goes on....

August 27, 2007 Enjoying the last few days of August. Shook off that cam walker a few weeks ago and can now enjoy the summer in true flip flop fashion! Still some lingering pain, but can always keep my sanity writing, playing and listening to music. Hopped out to the west coast recently for my brother's wedding in Malibu. It was a beautiful day and a gr8 time for all! On the plane ride home, it was fun to check out new releases on my personal entertainment center located on the seat in front of me. Can't listen to Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' enough! Also got to check out some cool russian pop compilations. Russian pop music is where it's at! Been listening to a gr8 station low on the dial of my bedside radio--VSE radio--that plays the lastest and greatest tunes from russian artists--it's all hot! Also got to hang out with friends Lisa and Leo of Leo's Mom at the shore. Had a gr8 time rockin out to the casio and running on the beach--not to mention a wicked game of miniature golf!

June 30, 2007
The foot is feeling so much better. There was a time there where I felt like the only thing holding my foot together was skin. I'm hoping to change my daily routine from mandatory counch rest (I prefer to think of it as my traction simulator) to actually walking around guilt-free! I long for the day where I can shake off that cam walker, don the most comfortable pair of sneakers and slowly lose the limp! When you limp, you are not using your foot to it's fullest capacity and the nerves are getting a free ride. So when you want to put all your pressure back on the foot the nerves are like "What the hell"! So essentially the therapy will be for my nerves because they are a bit rattled. It's so wonderful to be able to move around again and chip away at that fracture fifteen. The experience also opened my eyes to the pitfalls of getting around town with a disability. Mine was temporary, but horrible nevertheless. I had to rethink everything I did. I couldn't really do anything for myself that required any extended period of time on my foot so I mostly went from point A to B and prayed for the best. I discovered elevators in subway stations. What a strange world that is! Lots of lazy people with no noticeable handicaps pushing their way past the people who really need to use it! And I don't know how many of you have ever been on a subway elevator but if you have you'll know that the majority of them have their own distinctive smell that seems to have permeated the floor and almost knocks you out!

I saw the most wonderful film the other night--The Sea Inside. I cannot recommend this film enough--it was beautifully scripted, acted and executed. There is also a great documentary of the production process which is just as wonderful if you want see how someone goes about making such a film from start to finish.

April 29, 2007 Now that Spring is in full blast everyone is back out on the street. People coming out of hibernation. Lots of rain and lots of blossoms. I've been scoping out birdfeeders. Would love one made of wood like a little house but I fear the squirrels will move in so I may have to get one of those houses on a pole or better yet one of the squirrel-proof ones that resembles a penitentiary with its heavy-duty fencing.

Music....? Yes, though I am preoccupied with getting my patio umbrella out of the basement so I can take my writing outside to the picnic table.

April 6, 2007 Just a hint of Spring is enough to put me in a good mood. Though with this fractured foot I am most disgruntled these days. If I get shoved one more time by impatient, oblivious New Yorkers on their way to wherever their life or death mission takes them--I just don't want to think!

So is it just me or has New York pizza seen better days? I haven't had a good slice in a pizza joint in a long time! I've made a few stops over the last couple months expecting to have that perfect NY moment that is my right (as a life-long New Yorker and musician ) with my slice and a coke, only to arrive at the moment of complete disappointment. Of course I tell my friends and they rattle off a bunch of places where they swear the pizza rocks. But that's not the point. The point is that you used to be able to stop almost anywhere, plop down at the little table and indulge in the great pizza moment that practically defines the New York experience. But now every slice I meet has bland sauce, flavorless, textureless cheese sitting on disappointing, crappy, thin, limp and lifeless dough. I remember when the worst slice was merely not as good as your favorite place. But now I tear through slice after slice and wince with regret from the experience. Of couse I can hear my mother's voice blaring "what're you doing eating pizza anyway?!"

On the music front, I'm very excited to announce that Tunnel Tunes will soon be available as a digital download! As soon as I get all the files properly prepared and uploaded I'll let ya know. Also I have just updated my links page with categories and new links some of which are socially conscious--an essential addition to anyone's life. I choose not to explain my links--you should just go there and see for yourself! It's all pretty self-explanatory. And last but not least, I have really cleaned up my Malta page! Lots of fantastic links to bring you a lot closer to the island with very informative sites, fun sites and media sites where you can stream live tv shows or check out the on-demand stuff.

January 27, 2007 Another birthday right around the bend. I was born in the dead of winter and long for the hot weather if only to try growing my lemon trees once again. I actually had some sprouts this Summer til white flies invaded and killed them all and my basil! Since then I haven't been able to sprout anything. Finished reading "Chasing The Sea" by Tom Bissell about his journey to the Aral Sea in Central Asia. Highly recommended and I hope to visit the region some day to see it all for myself. In the mean time I'm nursing an occult fracture in my foot that I've been walking around with since September! Had my first MRI which is like having a guest starring role on "Star Trek". I'm just not one of those people who can sit still for more than a few seconds so this proved quite a challenge. The whole experience was a throwback to a 1960's Sci-Fi flick--modern medicine, maybe--but nonetheless set in the 1960's with sound effects a 5 year old could play on a casio. The machine itself had one single marking. On the front above the opening to the tunnel it read "Philips". Yes, the same people who bring you your Tv's, CD and DVD players also bring you your MRI.

January 1, 2007 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Hope everyone rang in the New Year in their own special way! I have been enjoying the holiday season to the max--baking cookies and passing them out to friends and kicking back w/guitar in hand, plunking out more kids songs! Sending out my love to all family, friends and fans all over the world!!!!!!

Dec. 7 , 2006 Well, the Mets didn't win but they still put on a good show! Gearing up for the holiday season and nursing my foot which has kept me from much of what I usually like and need to do in a day. Have been staying very close to the laptop and seriously updating my Malta page, playing around with iMovie as well as googling everything that strikes my fancy. Since I'm reading Tom Bissell's "Chasing the Sea" and learning about the devastated region in Central Asia around the Aral Sea, I've been learning so much about all the 'stans'. Has anyone ever heard of the Mongol Road Rally? Well I hadn't but its worth checking out at Youtube! But that's the lighter side of things...there are things going on in the region of the Aral Sea that have nothing to do with global warming--rather the devastating result of pure greed and exploitation--and people just live with it. God I can't wait to get back on my feet, but in the mean time I've been writing yet more kid songs and looking forward to releasing the CD some time in 2007.

Here's wishing everyone out there Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year!!!!!

Oct. 1, 2006 Beautiful Fall...still writing, recording and keeping busy with future projects including new kids CD! Go Mets!

May 12, 2006
Haven't written in so so long! Spring is here and I am dividing my time between smelling the roses and recording my fabulous new kids record. Producer Rick DePofi at New York Noise is coming up with lots of amazing kid-likeable layers with the help of special guests and we are having an awesome time not being grown-ups! More details to come as we near completion.

Benna w/Benjamin Cartel + Courtney Kaiser @ South Park 2005

August 27, 2005 Summer's almost done....though i'm really bummed about that, I'm so busy I can't cry! Returning to the South Park Music Festival in a couple of weeks. South Park is 2.5 hours out of Denver, not far from Breckenridge. I was there last year for the kick-off and had so much fun i plan on staying the whole weekend this year! This is a free affair in the middle of nowhere with good people---good times! Come and have a lot of fun! September 8-10--all day/all night!Anyway, sounds like some of you have been having some big adventures out there in the world. It's so nice to be reminded that there's a big wide world out there beyond these states!

July 7, 2005
I have been totally enjoying this Summer for all it's heat and sun!!! Planning on tackling the next recording project in the next couple of months and will give a full disclosure as it all becomes clear to me! In the meantime, hope the rest of you are enjoying the Summer as well, getting to the beach or some fabulous vacation! Alas am not making the trip to Malta this Summer--bummer!!!! But have begun teaching myself Maltese and this crazy, complicated language is actually a lot of fun once you get the hang of it! Have totally managed NOT to see War of the Worlds but would luv to see Mad Hot Ballroom, if I wasn't such a flake! Totally hooked on reruns of That 70's Show! Speaking of that 70's--my bro (Adam Cohen) directed and appears as the next door neighbor with the jew-fro in the new MTV show The 70's House! Uh-huh!
Big congrats to West Virginia pals Deana and Chuck Kleine who welcomed little Forest Casper into the world a few weeks ago. I actually got to hold the little guy a couple weeks ago and he is tiny--and so cute!

May 9, 2005 Lots of writing, flicks and other stuff...

December 13, 2004 Happpy Hannukah to all!

Home improvements done for the time being! Need furniture cuz when you move as much as i do you do without!

I love the cold...to a point...then i shiver! Warming up with tea and dvd's. 'Road to Perdition', 'Hearts and Minds', 'Fog of War', 'Medium Cool', 'Chungking Express', 'The Grand Illusion', 'Hilary and Jackie'.

Been back to the Steve Keene Sometime Store to pick up yet more goodies--can't stop myself!

Lots of new song ideas--putting them all down to minidisk.

November 8, 2004 Much belated thanks to everyone who showed up for the Pianos show! It was great playing there for the first time for such a great crowd and introducing the new songs! Currently up to my ears in home improvements! Just moved into a new apartment and lots to do--painting, cleaning, setting up home.

Bummed about the election....ahhhh....spent that night in a fog watching 'Bloody Sunday'. Also 'Mildred Pierce', Some old Eric Rohmer, Truffaut's 'Shoot The Piano Player', 'The Five Obstructions', 'Searching For Debra Winger', 'A Star Is Born' (1934), 'Pirates Of The Caribbean'...and so many more as I don't own a TV these days.

Checked out Steve Keene's Sometime Store art opening this past Saturday. He's branching out and exploring other mediums--right now, wood! I went home with a handful of new stuff--unavoidable! You can get more info at his website.

Had a pleasant Halloween, living in a neighborhood with lots of kids who got an early start on Trick or Treating. Sat on my front stoop for a break from painting and passed out lots of candy!
New songs coming!

September 20, 2004 The South Park Music Fest was a blast! Spent a whirwind 24 hours or so in Fair Play CO...in the beautiful mountains with all that high altitude. The show went great and my set followed a great duo--Courtney Kaiser and Benjamin Cartel from--of all places--Brooklyn NY! Got to see some amazing bands from other parts such as Loretta from Indianapolis. It all went by too quickly so Hopefully I'll be back next year and spend more than a day in a beautiful part of the country. Big shout out goes to Donna who made the 2 hour trip lugging me to and from the Denver airport! Check out some pix from the fest here.

Looking forward to the (free!) show at Pianos tomorrow nite--the 21st. Hope to see you there!!!!

ps--check out Loretta at Siberia 9/22 and CBGB's 9/23 in NYC; also friends from Toronto, By Divine Right at Mercury Lounge 9/24!

August 24, 2004 Busy times...gearing up for the trip to South Park, CO for the South Park Music Fest September 11th. I forgot that this is the South Park--like the tv show! duh! That in itself makes it worth the trip! Also have my first show in NYC in a while at Pianos September 21st. Can't wait to play local and hope to see all my NYC friends there!

Not looking forward to the RNC next week. NYC is expected to be turned upside down--yeesh! Finding comfort in burying my head in yet more dvd's...Midnight Cowboy was awesome and re-viewing Lawrence of Arabia was very interesting...so epic! Really stirred things up in the middle east in a way that we are to this day still wreeling from!

Also been checking out This American Life archives. These are great extraordinary stories from ordinary people. I luv a good story and they're all pretty moving.

Hope you're all enjoying the lazy August season.

August 12, 2004
Can't believe August is almost half done...i believe in eternal summer! Just finished watching 'The Snapper'--what a great flick. Also luved 'Brief Encounter' and 'Citizen Kane'. The best part of watching these dvd's is the commentaries! You learn so much!

Just got invited to the South Park Music Fest in Colorado, coming up Sept. 11th. It will be nice to spend such a somber occasion playing some songs with the mountainous backdrop!

Enjoy the sun n' fun!

July, 27, 2004
Summer blows on...writing is fun...reading, running, escaping and watching tons o' dvd's! 'Taxi Driver', 'Chinatown', 'Black Orpheous', 'Casablanca'....Caught friends Cantinero at Fez again--even better than the first time--luv em!....Songs featured in new Andy Dick show on MTV "The Assistant". Looking forward to playing the new songs for all to hear at upcoming shows in Fall!!!! Thanks again to all the Bennas' emails--these stories are fascinating! Have fun!

June 30, 2004 Thanks to everyone who came out for the show at MJ's. It was great to make the trip down to PA and playsome of the new songs. Always luv playing MJ's and will definitely be back again soon!

Been watching tons of dvd's...watched 'the 400 blows' for the first time and listening to the commentary was pretty interesting. revisiting a couple old flicks--'wings of desire' and 'gray's anatomy'--highly recommend both. finally hit the beach for the first time this season, making it out to Long Beach and soaking up the sun and swimming in the very cold ocean. luv the beach! flipping through Pablo Neruda's 'residence on earth' and trying to learn maltese with various books. just managing the pronounciation is an accomplishment in itself!

have lots and lots of video to sift through from the tour which i would luv to eventually edit and upload. definite summer project along with writing new songs and enjoying the beautiful summer weather while it lasts.

happy 4th to everyone!

June 23, 2004
Was a wonderful day...sunshine...got up early...went running...stopped by the bookstore and picked up a Pablo Neruda book 'Residence on Earth'....gassed up the car, got the oil changed and sent her for a car wash. Must've really scrubbed the hell outa her cuz i seem to be missing the 'Olds' from Oldsmobile--no love lost there! still have the 'mobile' in the glove compartment from the time the national guards rammed into me in the brooklyn-battery tunnel. Decided it might be a good thing to change my guitar strings before the show on friday so i stopped by rumbleseat on 5th ave by my house in park slope. of course they were out of mine. grrrrrr. so ambled on home to google music stores in my hood and came up with another store not far, over the gowanus canal on court street--the music general store. kinda chaotic there. i called ahead to make sure they had my strings--they didnt--but i could get something else. but the salesguy was not in the mood to explore the realm of strings comparable to d'addario phospher bronze lights. you could say that i was annoying him. but from my vantage point you could say he was annoying me. and this kind of interaction wasn't new for me. i had a similarly painful experience on more that one occassion with the counterboys at 30th street guitars. they just don't wanna know you. and you wonder--do they hate girls who think they can play guitar? but i asked my friend--a guy in a band--and he said i shouldnt take it personally cuz 'these guys are so miserable over having to work the counter at the guitar store and they just wanna be rock stars. and their bands probably suck too'. i can't say i've experienced the worst from guys in every music store. for some reason, the guys at manny's have always been cool. but sam ash--i just get plain ignored. it would be such a perfect world to do the politically correct thing and support your local mom and pop stores. but when they don't even wanna deal with you--y'have to wonder, why bother?....I came outa that store (leaving with a couple packs of dr's) feeling rather shitty.

Really looking forward to the show at MJ's this friday. This place is connected to a movie theater so you can see the flick and then travel all the way next door to catch me! There's always some good film playing at the Allen Theatre! Anyway, can't wait to get down there an play my stuff in cluding a couple new tunes. Hope to see some of you there!

VH-1

'Dreams I Say' is a featured track in the new VH-1 flick '30 Days Until I'm Famous', premiering Friday, May 7th, 9/8c PM.

SAVE THE BOTTOM LINE!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone, I've seen sooooo many shows over the years at the Bottom Line from the Roches to all the Writers in the Round series hosted by Vin Scelsa to an amazing Warren Zevon solo at the piano, Shawn Colvin, Richard Thompson, Robert Earl Keene, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Alison Krause, Jane Siberry, Suzanne Vega, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clarke, Steve Forbert and a bazillion people in between! New York has changed so much but one of the few mainstays left is the Bottom Line! Please go to this link and do what you can to help them stay in business! http://www.savethebottomline.com

UPDATE: Well, just found out sadly the BL closed its doors January 22nd. I live in NYC and didn't even hear the news! I read about it on a cool site i came across kingblind. This site is an awesome source for music news concerning all the stuff you want to know about and none you don't want to know about. The Bottom Line will be sorely missed.

April 29, 2004
The Greasy Kids Party was a blast! Debuted 2 new kids songs for a sea of tots amidst some unrelated crying and other baby-chaos. Finally got my hands on the new disc and luv it! Not just just cuz i'm on it! Especially luv the cut 'Mouser Mecha-Catbot' by Olivia Olson and Eban Schletter. Eban writes songs for SpongeBob SquarePants and this track ROCKS!

'30 Days Until I'm Famous' should be premiering on VH-1 May 7th and I've been told my song 'Dreams I Say' is featured at the pinnacle moment towards the end. Can hardly wait!

Been writing like a fiend and enjoying the flow of new stuff.

Reading a very cool book of Maltese anecdotes (a gift from the beanies) and learning so much about the years and years of turbulent history on the island. Fascinating stuff about the Knights of St. John and all the many sieges the Maltese endured. It's simply mind-boggling!! The new Brad Pitt flick 'Troy' is totally shot on Malta and will be coming out mid-May. Can't wait--should be epic!

April 21, 2004
Spring has finally sprung and the trees are most definitely in bloom! New York is a helluva lot more pleasant when the sun is shining and the flowers are poppin' up all over!

Finally aced my taxes which created quite a challenge having to dig up tour receipts for all that gas consumed during the last tour! Now that they're done I can hardly wait for the refund!

For those of you in the NYC district, there's a show at Sam + Seb's Clothing Store this Sunday, April 25th at the ungodly hour of 10 AM. This is so because it's a kiddie show celebrating the Greasy Kid Stuff Compilation CD about to come out. I'll be singing that classic Schoolhouse Rock hit 'Figure Eight' (originally featured on Tunnel Tunes) as well as some new tunes penned just for the kiddies that I think you'll all enjoy. So if you like cupcakes or have little ones, come on down and join the fun!! All info is available at the top of this page.

Also, '30 Days Until I'm Famous', that new VH-1 flick featuring the track 'Dreams I Say' should be premiering May 7th.

Don't forget to check the lincology page for frequent updates for cool links including friends of mine who make great music, such as Cantinero who's new CD 'Championship Boxing' is due out soon and will please the lot of you I guarantee. Old friend Paul Garisto is drumming in the band and I caught their first show @ Fez recently--it was beautiful and rocked!

And for those of you on the maillist, please don't forget to send updates with your new addresses... would hate to lose touch with your lovely selves. Special shout out to all the Benna's out there. Recently recieved a very interesting bit of information from Christian Benna regarding yet another meaning for the name. It seems Benna is the celtic word for "assault machine" or something like that. Romans took the word, because they didn't have an expression for this sort of "ancient tank". cool!

Hope you're all enjoying the beautiful warm weather wherever you are in the world!

April 3, 2004
It was a whirlwind week, hosting the Beangrowers in NYC--one of the best weeks of my life!!!! Was a little nervous greeting them (Alison, Ian, Mark and Manager Luigi) at the airport since i've been so in love with their music for quite some time and now here they were! I think it was a dream come true for us all. When they weren't busy taking meetings with NY industry folks, we made the most of each day... getting up early in the morning to jam as much as we could site-seeing-wise into our days, ending very late each nite at some bar with a few Brooklyn lagers. Some hi-lites: Spending a good amount of time at the top of the Empire State building, taking in the expansive New York City-scape through sunset into the night... eating at an italian restaurant on Ave. A, just amazed as everyone at the table but me spoke italian with the delightful owner...taking a ride on the Staten Island Ferry....walking, walking and more walking everywhere....ending up at the fountain at Central Park and just chillin', dazed and amazed by all we'd managed to see, tired and blissed out. The show at Sin-e was, of course, awesome! Thanks to everyone who made it down for this awesome event! Ok, I've used 'awesome' a lot here, but it's all I can say at this point! The beanies are the sweetest, most fun, most talented band. I'll miss my Maltese comrades but I know we'll meet again soon for sure either on their turf or mine.

Read the beanies' complete tour diary for more stuff.

In other news...looking forward to the Greasy Kid show at Sam & Seb's kiddie clothing store in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn on April 25th. If you have kids, this should be a really fun party! I'll be singing the Schoolhouse Rock cover 'Figure Eight' along with some other kiddie songs recently penned. See you there!

March 16, 2004
A beautiful Day in NYC! Rumored snowfall for tomorrow...gearing up for the Beangrowers first time in the USA! If you get the chance to catch them live in Austin or NYC in the coming week, please don't miss this opportunity! They really rock! This aint just Maltese pride talking--they've been top of my list for 2 years running!

Enjoying some great reading...just finished 'Fast Food Nation'--a must read for anyone and everyone! Also, Pete Hammil's 'A Drinking Life'--if I could write, it would be like Pete. I loved this book!

And last but not least, a big shout out to all the Benna's that have emailed me to share their Benna stories. We are a mighty force!

February 13, 2004

Hope everyone is braving the harsh winter weather. I myself have decided to say no to shivering and invested in a space-heater! I'm a new woman!

January 15, 2004
Happy New Year and all that good stuff...ringing in the new year with a bang starting with the mammoth zit from hell...appeared outa nowhere and i suspect an alien will pop out of my chin any day now! Just half-way through 'Fast Food Nation' the book that ALL my friends have read. It reads almost like an absurd sci-fi novel only it's real and it's in your home!!!! your life!!!! your everything!!!! we live in a completely artificial, manipulated world--uh-oh! While on the road i do my best to avoid the fast food joints--but it becomes increasingly more difficult when everything is a franchise! So i'm reading the french fry chapter and stop to catch the latest episode of 'Sex and the City' only to come upon the scene where Carrie has had enough of Barishnikov's hyper-romantic tendencies and so in her Oscar de La Renta, they bag the opera and head over to McD's where they each chew on one end of a french fry til their lips meet--yeesh. I don't think there's a place on this earth where McD's doesnt exist! Well, aside from freezing my butt off in this extreme winter weather we're having, I haven't been having a boring life at all--no matter how hard I try! last saturday, while breezing up to the bronx via the brooklyn-battery tunnel i got side-rammed by a suburban that just happened to be manned by national guards! so they're trying to change lanes illegally and don't see me. and all i really wanted to do was get to the bronx so i could get my rear passenger window fixed because it was bashed in last month. i think i see the lesson in all this--never leave the house! it was one of those tunnel nightmares where traffic comes to a complete stop--no one hurt--my car needed to be towed to the manhattan side of the tunnel and my friend Ray had to change the tire, which was seriously mangled, in the bitter cold. It's sad when a '91 Cutlass Ciera gets any kind of damage. It's like an over-the-hill prize fighter getting in the ring. Just very sad. So there will be lots to tell bout music stuff coming up in future notes. In the mean time, thanks everyone for the warm seasons greetings and for continuing to buy the cd and support the music!

December 1, 2003
Time flies when you're going in a million different directions! It's always a shocker when December rolls around--all that holiday stuff to contend with. oi vey! Since putting out the CD, it's been one long trip--packing and unpacking has become a daily ritual! Recently relocated to a new pad in Brooklyn and still living out of boxes and suitcases til i figure out what's what. In the mean time, It's been a great low-key kind of existence...getting to know the hood, getting reacquainted with friends and trying to catch the odd show here and there. Had the pleasure of attending Roy Owens Jr's show at the Knit. Roy is from GA and his CD was passed on to me while on tour. I fell in luv with it, playing it non-stop while whizzing around the country in my old ford econoline (with the red plush interior and fold-out bed) which I have since traded in for a cutlass ciera. It was a real loose show and the band was a big warm fuzzy--i thought of going up to Roy afterwards to let him know I'm his #1 fan--but alas--chickened out and headed for the subway--taking an arduous 2 hours to get home through re-routing due to track work and eventual cab-ride. This past weekend, friends the Monarques were in from MN and played 2 amazing shows at Pianos and the Mercury Lounge. Can't wait for their return! And just have to plug the Paris Hilton/Nicole Ritchie Reality TV show 'The Simple Life' premiering tomorrow nite on Fox TV because believe it or not it's directed by none other than my brother Adam Cohen--so proud!!!! And I hope by now some of you have gotten hip to the hop of the Beangrowers cuz if you're in London in the coming week you'll get to see them live and I'm soooo jealous!!!!!!

October 7, 2003
It's been a busy summer and now a busy fall! Done painting the new place--looks amazing--but i'm done with home improvements for the time being! Very happy about all the Malta coverage that 'What's Meant To Be' is receiving. Looking forward to checking out the Mark Ryden show at the Earl McGrath Gallery! Ryden is an amazing painter with the most colorful, vivid and intense imagination! I could sit and stare at his stuff for hours--but who has the time! Speaking of Malta, I'm currently watching 'The Count of Monte Cristo' on cable...the film was totally shot there and shows some really breathtaking sites--its all real, baby! Can't wait to start uploading all the fun stuff to the site! Got all the tour video to sift through and convert to mpeg clips or some such thing. In the mean time, been enjoying the new cd from the Emergency. Picked it up while hanging out at their release party after my show in Morgantown last month. I just luv Morgantown! Got to go to the very big annual Buckwheat Festival in Kingwood. Ate pancakes, some ice cream dots and almost stepped on the most amazing caterpillar ever!!!!

So almost done with 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. I'm a slow reader and enjoying every bit of it. First novel I've enjoyed in ages. I'd made a serious switch to non-fiction a few years ago and never looked back. But i picked this baby up on the road and had been dying to read it forever....Saw 'The Magdalen Sisters'--not a chick flick i assure you and well worth seeing as it is a true story and not even a very happy ending really--but the truth is finally exposed!...Also saw that 'Masked and Anonymous' thing that Bob Dylan is in. Ok it was so worth it just to see Bob and the band--but the movie itself was an all-star bomb. I see what they were trying to do but i'm not sure they pulled it off--it was just kinda dopey....I think I have finally gotten my computer to do as it's told--almost--i think there are ventilation issues...so while i take the time to take care of the little things like computer probs, guitar issues, new songs, cleaning house, da car and all that fun stuff, I've been roaming around and checking in with a few old friends like Kevin Salem who wrote the song 'Sleep' that I covered on Greetings from Port Authority. Got to see the baby and play some tennis which was a total blast!...Just got the good news that What's Meant To Be is starting to hit in faraway places like Malta--to radio and press--this is exciting since my roots are there and every time I go there it's like going home!...Digging through my cd collection for the older stuff and came across Jules Shear's Unplug This which is acoustic versions of some really good stuff like 'If She Knew What She Wants' and 'All Through The Night'. I luv Jules!

Ah August! Time to finally accept the fact that everything comes to a screeching halt so what better time to write new songs....Spending time in Brooklyn takin care of business and trying to get my g4 computer to embrace Jaguar. There is some resistance....Trying to get through memoirs of a geisha, but mostly i stay glued to the computer with the occasional jaunt to the other room to watch cable tv!

Happy July! Now that the days are mostly sunny and hot, the rain is a lot easier to take. Hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend to the max. Spent my indi-day with new friends and watched the morgantown fireworks from their riverboat! Still no TV so have replaced my daily dose of Ghostworld with I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, the Wilco rockumentary. It's a pretty riveting slice of band-life i must say. I don't know what musician hasn't gone through the horrors of creative and professional conflicts similar to the ones exposed in this movie! It's sad, but also liberating--it's always good to know that you're not the only one going through such ugly situations--and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Bleary-eyed saturday morning--first day of summer! Sounds of a dixie band wafting up from Court street in Brooklyn where I'm staying with a friend. This bank downstairs does this peppy music promotional thing every weekend i hear. A little too chipper for me at 11:19 am! Just got back from an awesome show at MJ's in Annville last nite--thanks to everyone who hung out and bought cd's--you totally rock. And thanks to Skip and everyone who made me feel so welcomed there!!!!" The big feature was "A Mighty Wind" (for those of you who don't know, MJ's is connected to the Allen Theatre). I just happen to have the soundtrack in my car--a gift from a friend. All the songs are great to sing along to--a good thing when you're trying to stay awake for the ride home! Also thanks to the folks at Klekolo where i played the night before in Middletown CT. The minute i pulled up I realized I'd been there a few years before when Matt Kane (guitar player in a couple of pictures on my bio page) took us to some of his high school haunts. Unfortunately i put a bad ding around my front light when i pulled away from the curb, trying to avoid one of a gazillion kids spilling onto the street and twisted into a hydrant cleverly concealed in garbage bags--what a bummer!!!!! But it was a fun show once i got over the initial shock of my first dent! And thanks to the audience and crew at Coffee & Tea Room in Williamsport PA this past Friday the 13th who are obvious muzik luvers which made for a really fun show!!!!...This dixie band only plays for about 15 seconds at a time!....So with all this rain do you think Seattle is saying "haha, now you know how it feels?".....finally have a couple of days off in nyc to just chill--sort of--got some obligations, but not in a big way. Now that I've dislodged myself from the big city it really is a great place to come back to!....I'm kind of looking forward to winding down the tour that began in January and doing some reading, writing, recording, catching up with everyone and everything and just enjoying the summer. Happy summer to everyone out there!

Finally a sunny day in West Virginia. What is up with all this rain????....still unpacking my mounds of stuff which i stuffed in boxes for years cuz i couldnt deal....thanks to web guru_buddy josh g who sent down some pretty amazing dvd's to kill the "ghostworld" streak. yes folks, without a tv i've been watching "ghostworld" every friggin night since i've been down here and i can still honestly say i luv that movie! otherwise, it's been a heavy dose of NPR and U92--the great college radio station down here.
So i'm sure you're all wondering if going to #1 at wras has gone to my head--well i'm happy to say that isn't the case. For instance, the day i heard the news, i had just lost my case, contesting my "driving too fast for road conditions" citation in Morgantown. I was just a little upset that the officer got up on the stand and hmmmm--lied. So hearing the good news definitely lifted my spirits! Nope, i still drive a cutlass ciera with the broken gas gauage and do all the things fledgling rock stars do.
Lookin forward to the shows i've got lined up for this summer, doin some writing and just enjoying the down-time while it lasts!

Gr8 review from Delusions of Adequacy !
Big hello from the road! Gonna make this short cuz i'm pretty exhausted--but the tour is going great--lots of driving, very little sleeping and seeing all kinds of places for the very first time.

The CD is available on-line at places like Amazon and should be in stores and if it's not in your store you should insist that they order it! Same thing with radio--call your favorite local station and request Benna! We're in the midst of a serious radio campaign and need your support!!!!!!

Big thanks to everyone for turning out for the shows! There's been a last minute addition to the March itinerary....opening for TONIC at Iota on the 25th! Should be really cool since they're doing a special acoustic thing. See ya there!

Crazy bizzy times! Sincerest apologies to everyone at the Soul Full Cup--ran into heavy traffic at every step along the way and it just killed any chance of making the show--but we'll be re-scheduling...Thanks to everyone who showed up for the Sparky's and Cubbyhole shows! And big hello to everyone--friends and fans--who made it out to the Juna's show this past Saturday--it was my first time in Ithaca and Juna's is a very special place!!!!
The Southeast Tour kicks off this Wednesday in Charlottesville VA at Tokyo Rose. I had the pleasure of playing there a few years back w/the Cha Cha Cabaret and can't wait to do it again. Hope to see you all at the shows!

What a week...yesterday was Banjo Jim's memorial and it was overwhelming seeing all those old familiar faces from all parts of Jim's life--Kerrville, the Speakeasy, the Bottom Line and all the crew people, artists and buddies that knew and loved him. So many people were there to share in their grief and to tell their great stories about Jim as well as sing songs. It's still hard to fathom he's gone.
The Funk's show in Baltimore was truly amazing...playing to a great room of people lit by candlelight. It was a very special place! On to Worcester and Gloucester Mass then Williamsport PA--see ya there!

Just found out a dear old friend Jim Croce died in a freak car accident in NJ on Jan. 28 (my birthday). His wife Lisa was thankfully spared any serious injury. Jim was a sweet person loved by all and will be so dearly missed by many of us in the music community. I'd like to say more about Jim but I'll save it for a bit later. Below is the information for his memorial service this Sunday:
